Our period undies have been designed to be a total replacement for disposable hygiene products. You can also wear them in conjunction with tampons or cups for an added layer of protection.
It really depends on if you are planning to use them on their own or as a backup option. If you've never used period panties before, it's a good idea to start with a couple of pairs and test them out for a few days before you fully commit. If you plan to use them as your primary form of period protection, we recommend getting at least 5 pairs based on your flow so you don't have to wash them every day.
As with pads, it can be tricky to figure out how often you need to change your period underwear, but with a little trial and error, you'll find what works best for you. When wearing our period undies, you should feel dry as the blood is locked away. If you start to feel dampness, it's time to change into a fresh pair. Most women wear one pair throughout the day and switch to a fresh pair for bedtime. If you're a heavy bleeder, you'll likely need to change your period underwear more often – especially if you're not using any other period products. Depending on your flow our period undies can last you up to 12 hours.
There are a few ways you can take care of your period undies. If you have several pairs and don’t want to wash them one by one during your cycle, simply rinse each pair out with cold water until the water runs clear and hang them to dry before tossing them in your laundry bag to be washed with the next load of clothes. Alternatively, you can hand-wash them with a bit of regular soap. Always air dry.
